Fundraising event an opportunity to help area students and fight domestic violence
Bangor Daily News – Some of the most worthy causes are local. That’s why this year, Beal College is the presenting sponsor of Erin’s Run.
“We are very proud to be the sponsors of Erin’s run this year,” said Sheryl DeWalt, Beal President. “Beal College has been an integral piece of Bangor history, spanning over 128 years in higher education within our community.”
Erin’s Run is a 5K race/walk that honors the memory of Erin Woolley. Started in 2013, the race serves as a fundraiser for several local nonprofits, with all money raised going to support causes such as Partners for Peace (formerly Spruce Run – Womancare Alliance), the University of Maine Swimming & Diving Program, the Bangor YMCA aquatics program, and a Bangor High School scholarship in Erin’s memory. In the past 7 years, Erin’s Run has raised $89,000 for these local organizations and causes.
“We have sponsored hundreds of local charities and events over the years, but this year Erin’s Run is especially emotional for us,” said Sheryl DeWalt, Beal President. “As many have heard, we lost one of our own very dear students recently to domestic violence. We are proud to support this organization and all the great things they continue to do to end domestic violence. Students, graduates, faculty and staff will take part in the run to celebrate the life of the amazing woman we lost and all of the amazing women who continue to find strength to become a survivor.”
The run is scheduled for Sunday, April 19, at the Bangor Waterfront. A free Kids 1K run (with no registration required) will start at 8:45 a.m., just prior to the main event, which begins at 9 a.m. Both the starting line and finishing line will be at the Waterfront.
Registration for Beal students, family and friends is $20 and includes a ‘Team Beal / Erin’s Run’ custom t-shirt for the first 100 to register at bealcollege.edu/erins-run. For those not involved with Beal, register at runsignup.com/Race/ME/Bangor/ErinsRun.
